ARTIFACTS OF FEAR **** UK 2023 Dir: Rusty Apper. 110 mins From Red Zodiac Films and Rusty Apper comes ARTIFACTS OF FEAR, a 3 part horror anthology. My favourite segment of the three is easily the first one, as a young woman is terrorised by a serial killer that has been terrorising the city. It just so happens that she is working on the case. The storyline was quite frustrating at times as she irritatingly made stupid mistakes. It is a great slasher and could easily become a feature – I would definitely give it a watch! Each segment is…

THE UNHOLY ** USA 2021 Dir: Evan Spiliotopoulos. 99 mins I think I’m being a little nicer by giving this two stars due to the lack of imagination and creativity. The film feels as though writer director Evan Spiliotopoulos had a basic idea and rushed to write the screenplay, prior to any story development. The film does redeem itself somewhat with the casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan to portray disgraced journalist Gerry Fenn, who is sent to cover a seemingly fake story. Instead, he learns about Alice (Cricket Brown) who is a deaf mute who suddenly has the abilities to…

CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES: THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF FRIDAY THE 13TH **** USA 2013 Dir: Daniel Farrands. 400 mins Being a Friday The 13th baby, I’ve always had a reason to like the Friday The 13th franchise. It has always been a favourite of mine as I think most of the films are brilliant. The long awaited documentary has arrived, detailing the making of each film within the franchise. I made sure to watch all 12 films of the franchise last year in preparation and to avoid spoilers as I hadn’t watched the last couple of films. The documentary is very…

WOLF GARDEN *** UK 2023 Dir: Wayne David. 89 mins Described as An American Werewolf In London meets Vertigo, Wolf Garden is firmly in the werewolf horror sub-genre category yet it isn’t entirely what you would expect. William, played by Writer / Director Wayne David, decides to isolate himself in an isolated cottage after struggling with a traumatic event. The film follows his story as he experiences visions and slowly drifts into insanity. This is very much a slow burner so those wanting to see plenty of werewolf action should look elsewhere. The budget was clearly too small for using…

SCREAM VI **** USA 2023 Dir: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. 122 mins Arguably the best film in the franchise following the original Scream (1996), Scream VI is the ultimate throwback. Featuring Courteney Cox as old school favourite Gale Weathers and Scream 4’s Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, detectives take a look back at previous killers when old evidence begins to appear at Ghostface crime scenes. With few flaws, we’re treated to the high standard we have come to expect from the Scream franchise, with Scream (2022) writers and directors back with a bang. Following the pattern of the original…
