CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES: THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF FRIDAY THE 13TH **** USA 2013 Dir: Daniel Farrands. 400 mins
Being a Friday The 13th baby, I’ve always had a reason to like the Friday The 13th franchise. It has always been a favourite of mine as I think most of the films are brilliant. The long awaited documentary has arrived, detailing the making of each film within the franchise. I made sure to watch all 12 films of the franchise last year in preparation and to avoid spoilers as I hadn’t watched the last couple of films.
The documentary is very well put together and contains everything you need to know in it’s almost 7 hour run time. The documentary is even split into sections, discussing each film in turn.
My favourite part of this documentary is easily the in-depth discussion of Tom Savini’s incredible effects in Friday The 13th (1980), especially when they go into in-depth detail of the murder of Jack (Kevin Bacon) who was murdered with an arrow through his chest. Incredible to know how it all happened.
The various film stars from the franchise pay homage to one of the greatest horror films I have come to know. Jason sliced and diced his way to becoming one of the most notorious horror film killers due to his strength and other behaviours. This is thanks to the many talented men who have been lucky enough to have portrayed him. You can see and hear the love they have for the character and the franchise during their on-screen interviews in the documentary.
The documentary is so much more than you could want – a truly superb and well put together film that will satisfy even the biggest fans of Jason Voorhees.
