BAE WOLF ** USA 2022 Dir: David Axe. 87 mins
In 500AD Denmark, a monster terrorises the people of Heorot by beheading some of their townsfolk.
This was a bizarre film to say the least. With an old school setting, this looked like it was going to be great. Unfortunately, the script used a laid back modern language that didn’t fit with the style of the film.
It may not aim to be taken seriously due to it being a parody, but it seemed unsure about the direction it wanted to go in. Even a comedy like this needs to have some effort put into it. It instead comes across as sloppy, apart from the costumer and whoever picked the filming location.
If you’re looking for a ‘comedy’ parody of Beowulf that contains zero laughs, this is it. It certainly was a struggle to sit through all 87 minutes due to my attention frequently wandering. This could have been improved with the presence of just a few experienced actors who are able to deliver lines with comedic timing. It may have been a little less flat if that were the case.
