THE POLTERGEIST DIARIES ** Hungary / USA / UK / Norway 2021 Dir: József Gallai. 76 mins
When Jacob Taylor vanishes without a trace, those around him enlist the help of a detective and try to find him using the footage he captured prior to his disappearance.
I do love a found footage horror, as long as it is done right. This is usually done by casting skilled but reasonably unknown actors and not hiring the likes of Eric Roberts to play a small role. For me, his appearance is when things began to unravel as it shattered the illusion of the found footage. Having since seen the poster, I’m amazed that he seems to be the films main selling point.
I wish this had a lot more horror aspects as it seemed to be more of a mystery drama. The only link to horror would be a scarf appearing in random places and crosses made from sticks. The film focused on interviewing those closest to the missing Jacob rather than building tension and suspense.
