A GUIDEBOOK TO KILLING YOUR EX **** Hungary / USA / UK 2016 Dir: József Gallai. 71 mins
A unique tale that took me by surprise following my viewing of The Poltergeist Diaries (2021), also from József Gallai. We are invited to follow a man (Balász Szitás) as he plots to kill his ex girlfriend (Tímea Virga) and her new man.
This was a blog / found footage style horror, taking us through the journey as he prepares and researches. We get a great insight into the mind of an unstable man as he descends into a crazed insanity with only one thought on his mind – revenge.
Balász Szitás was absolutely brilliant as our John Doe. He is clearly very passionate about acting and puts his all into this role. He is so talented that he honestly seemed believable.
The performance was definitely directed well, whilst also allowing Szitás space to be creative. József Gallai clearly put a lot of effort into this film and ensured it didn’t feel as if it has been made on a micro budget. This film has made me want to check out his other works.
This is absolutely worth your time.
