Origin of the show
I started this show cause of my love for movies and competition having played sports all my life. I thrive on the idea of competitive match ups where only one can win.
Throw in my love for horror films, over the years and especially since social media, I realized how different everyone’s opinions are and how passionate everyone is to support “their film”
Originally I had a show and you can still see it on my channel where I broke down the films on my own. Ultimately it was just my opinion. When I decided to revive it, I thought it would be cool to add new opinions not only to add more value to the content but by bringing in panelists I knew I could create a fun and engaging community and it has worked and to me, that has been the most rewarding part.
Quote – Beauty of the shows format
The beauty of the format of the show is that sometimes your favorite film isn’t the one you side with given the strategic categories. I designed it to be fair and cater to the topics most horror films are critiqued.
Show Ideas
In most cases, there is a common thread that draws two films into battle but I am not married to that idea as I find it to be limiting and lets face it, most friendly horror debates are without themes. If you want to debate The Shining vs Halloween, perhaps there is no theme connecting the two but that will definitely make one hell of a show.
Kings Of Horror
Teaming up with The Kings of Horror has been a wonderful partnership. The team at KOH have lifted the show to new heights and have added a production value that I wouldn’t have been able to achieve on my own. They are a fantastic channel to work with and I cannot wait to continue our partnership with not only Horror Face Off but other projects.
Leighanne
Leighanne was my first choice for the role of the Slasher. We had been friends on Instagram for years and finally met when I went to LA in 2023. Literally on the plane ride back I created the “slasher” role for the show and messaged her the day after. She was on board and our working relationship has been flawless. Having worked with others in past shows with extreme frustration I was hesitant to bring someone else into the fray. Leighanne made my decision a great one. She comes prepared, owns her role and knows what is best for the show. Her evolution in the role has been something to watch as well. After we shot a block of shows I revisited her performance with her and offered my suggestions to lift her role to where I needed it to be. When we began shooting new episodes she exploded with charisma and energy. She is now operating on a high level and getting better every show. Working with her continues to be a joy.
Guests/ Panelists
At first I was reaching out to people who I thought would be interesting panelist. Now having shot dozens of shows I am able to draw from the roster of guests that heighten the shows value. Moving forward the show will be populated with panelists that not only deliver great opinions but can deliver the entertainment value as well.
We have plenty of regular guests, such as John Popa, Kat Haunts, and Your Friendly Neighborhood uncle Pete and we try and mix in some new opinions from time to time like Horror Chronicles of TikTok, Nightmare Kristy of Nightmare Toys, Sean Clark of Malfuncsean and more. Guests make the show and no one has the ability to draw in a regular audience better than Mia of Whatmiasaid. Mia is often referred to as the Joan Rivers of of Horror Face Off (reference to the 80s rendition of Hollywood Squares)
Quote – Potential
Horror Face Off has no ceiling and I am excited to watch this show grow to the heights I know it’s capable of.
Collaboration
Collaboration is always a goal of mine. Not only to boost the popularity of this show but I love working with creative people and there are so many I have a tremendous respect for.
Future and More
Horror Face Off is a great show that I can see going on for a long time. I am always working on things. Even shows that I will not be hosting. I have about 12 new shows in my pocket at any time. It’s a blessing and a curse but hey, its horror, curses are fun!
I have big and exciting plans for this show including live shows at horror cons and even more. I can’t wait, its only the beginning.
