Arrow Video’s January release is the 1970s horror masterwork Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek as a telekinetic title character. If you’ve got a taste for terror – make sure you grab Carrie on 4K UHD from Arrow Video.
The release includes commentaries and visual essays, a wealth of interviews and archive featurettes, and comes in limited edition packaging, with a 40-page perfect bound book, a fold-out double-sided poster, six collector’s postcards!
In 1974, Stephen King published his first novel, the story of Carrie White, a troubled young girl, bullied by her peers and daughter to a fanatical fundamentalist mother, who discovers she has telekinetic powers. In 1976, it became the first of his works to be adapted for the big screen and, to this day, remains one of the very best.
Carrie marked Brian De Palma’s arrival as a major director, following smaller cult films such as Sisters, Phantom of the Paradise and Obsession, and provided a key early role for Sissy Spacek (Badlands), one that would earn her a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards®. Piper Laurie would also pick up a nomination as Carrie’s mother, while future stars such as Amy Irving, John Travolta and Nancy Allen were given their first major parts in a big-screen production.
With King’s eerie tale brilliantly realised by De Palma, featuring a virtuoso set-piece finale, and an oft-imitated shock ending that stills grabs the viewer, Carrie remains a masterclass in horror cinema. Restored in 4K from the original negative, this collector’s edition provides the definitive release of a horror classic.
Carrie is a gawky, unloved teenager whose awakening sexuality is at odds with her puritanical mother’s fanatical teachings. Physically abused at home and shunned at school, an unexpected prom invitation seems to be Carrie’s first chance at happiness. But when the prom night ends in a vicious practical joke, Carrie’s despair manifests itself in a fiery telekinetic revenge.
