TROUBLES * France 2020 Dir: Robin Entreinger. 128 mins We meet Marion after she has been living in the US for a couple of weeks. Sleep deprived due to a recurring nightmare, she accepts the help of a stranger. This was another film that I struggled with and found it entirely forgettable. Chloé Imbroglio does a great job playing Marion who is sucked into a cult. Sadly I felt some of the cast members were bored whilst filming as they showed minimal emotion. This could also be down to inexperience of some cast members. I can’t imagine this had much…

DOLL ** UK 2021 Dir: Louis Taylor. 10 mins A man (Louis Taylor) is tormented by an unknown entity in his home. With only a £500 budget, I knew this would be basic when it came to set design. Not the most ideal start for a haunted house film. The narrative at least is quite realistic as who hasn’t heard strange noises when home alone. This could have been improved by adding more tension and suspense as without it, it didn’t seem very scary. The cinematography styles used were slightly creepy, but a lot of this came from the sound…
THE FEAST *** UK 2021 Dir: Lee Haven Jones. 93 mins Following a very limited cinematic release, I was happy to finally be watching Welsh horror ‘The Feast’. Set in the beautiful Welsh countryside, we meet an entitled group of people attending a dinner party. An unusual arrival turns a sophisticated dinner into utter carnage. With plenty of gore, this is one for the horror fans. Jones also adds plenty of drama and social commentary, making it seem quite realistic. This is somewhat a slow burner but the pacing is used to build dread within the audience as the tension…
THE TAG-ALONG: DEVIL FISH *** Taiwan 2018 Dir: David Chuang. 114 mins Following a watch of this, I learnt that this actually a prequel to The Tag-Along (2015) which explains why I felt it wasn’t explained fully and I felt a little lost. It seems this had a really low budget as some of the camera work and film quality isn’t up to much. The effects are poor and don’t seem very realistic as they stand out in the shots. You can’t expect too much from a B movie though! The casting was great with Vivian Hsu playing Huang Ya-Hui.…
ZOMBIE BEACH * Canada 2010 Dir: Mukesh Asopa. 71 mins Yet another zombie film. Roshan (Mukesh Asopa) returns from India to his friends and girlfriend (Katherine Stefanski) but he is too distracted by recurring nightmares. I normally love zombie films when they’re done right but this was clearly an exploitation flick, containing nudity and sexist comments just for the sake of it. This was to the point I thought it had been written by a teenage boy, so I was shocked to find that Mukesh Asopa was in his 30s when he directed and co-wrote Zombie Beach. This is definitely…
