Vertigo Releasing today announced the launch of the brand-new trailer for She Will, the BIFA-nominated psychological horror from debut director Charlotte Colbert, released in cinemas on 22nd July.
The film is presented by horror legend Dario Argento (Suspiria, Inferno, Deep Red) who has called the film “an excursion into the world of witchery, madness, dreams, which together create an intoxicating atmosphere.”
Described by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron as sitting “in the tradition of great psychological horror films”, Colbert’s profound and nightmarish vision of revenge is a “powerful debut” and centred around a mentally and physically fragile actress with an original score from Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream composer, Clint Mansell.
Following a critically acclaimed World Premiere at Locarno Film Festival where the film won the Golden Leopard for Best First Feature, and a highlight of the Cult section of the 2021 BFI London Film Festival, She Will is the latest female-led and female-focused psychological horror to hit UK cinemas.
The film explores the story of Veronica Ghent (Alice Krige) who, after a double mastectomy, goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland with her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt). She discovers that the process of such surgery opens up questions about her very existence, leading her to question and confront past traumas. The two develop an unlikely bond as mysterious forces give Veronica the power to enact revenge within her dreams.
The psychological horror film stars Alice Krige (Carnival Row), Kota Eberhardt (X-Men: Dark Phoenix), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Rupert Everett (The Happy Prince), Jon McCrea (Cruella) and Amy Manson (The Nevers).
As well as directing the project, Colbert is also a co-writer on the film alongside Kitty Percy (Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators). She previously wrote and directed The Silent Man starring Simon Amstell (Grandma’s House) and Sophie Kennedy Clarke (Philomena).
Colbert is an artist and filmmaker who works across film, photography, ceramics and sculpture. Her work has been displayed in Somerset House, Saatchi Gallery and Art Basel, among other locations.
She Will was produced by Jessica Malik and Bob Last and executive produced by Edward R. Pressman, Sam Pressman, Ed Clarke, Sam Cryer, Hannah Leader, Thorsten Schumacher and Sara Woodhatch.
