Indie Horror Junkie’s own Rick Danford is stepping back into the shadows with his latest supernatural short film, They’re Here, set to begin production this December. The self-produced project marks Danford’s return to the kind of pure, atmospheric horror that first defined his career — a chilling, intimate story steeped in isolation, guilt, and the unseen horrors that emerge when forbidden doors are opened.
They’re Here centers on a young woman who returns home after a séance gone terribly wrong, only to realize that something sinister may have followed her back. With just one actress, Natalie Brienen, and a single location, the film becomes a claustrophobic descent into psychological and supernatural terror. As the walls close in, the protagonist must confront the demonic forces she has unwittingly unleashed — and the darkness within herself.
The official synopsis reads:
“A séance gone horribly wrong opens a door that should never have been opened. And something unspeakable has crossed over. Now, a home becomes a hunting ground for demonic forces loose in our world.”
Adding to the film’s haunting atmosphere is the blistering track “To Gain the World” by Christian metal band KillDevil Theory, which underscores the film’s themes of temptation and damnation.
The project also features the voice talents of Sarah Webb (Damsel of the Doomed) and D’Andre Noiré (The Clock), whose performances lend an eerie depth to the unseen entities that torment the film’s lone character.
Once completed, They’re Here will make its way through the international film festival circuit, with plans for potential inclusion in an upcoming anthology or as a proof of concept for a feature-length adaptation.
