Ooze is a 16mm nightmare comedy exploring the terror and absurdity of familial pressures, guilt, and anxieties. In the film, mysterious ooze drips from the baggage of Stephen, an awkward young man who visits his overbearing parents for dinner. Pulling influence everywhere from Cronenberg and Lynch to Tim & Eric, Ooze finds the humor in sticky family dynamics and the baggage they can bring into our lives.
Director Matthew Rollins scored and sound designed the film, putting a unique emphasis on sound. Growing up making experimental electronic music, his film uses rhythmic dialogue and sound effects to create an immersive and unsettling soundscape.
The film is produced by Infinite Dog, a new production company run by Brooklyn-based filmmakers.
Ooze premiered at Ridgewood Off-Kilter Film Festival on September 8th 2023 to a full house at Stone Circle Theatre in Ridgewood, Queens. It is set to premiere online through Kino Short of the Week and Minute Shorts, two platforms based in London, on October 27th 2023.
