PEOPLE OF THE DEAD *** USA 2023 Dir: Nate Thompson. 5 mins
CULT AFFAIRS (2021) Director Nate Thompson returns with this short film about a woman returning to her place of work and sneaking in after-hours with dire consequences for the young woman.
Raychel Eastes plays the unnamed woman skulking through the Argento-esque lit The Michigan Museum Of Horror as she encounters a burned woman standing atop of the stairs. As she moves closer to the top floor she encounters more entities and they don’t take kindly to night callers.
Purportedly this movie was filmed with real human skulls so if seeing a human head without its skin coming towards you in the darkness creeps you out then this isn’t for you.
While this short film has got atmosphere and the sound mixing is on top form overall the film feels more like a proof-of-concept piece for a feature film. If that is indeed the case then I want to see the feature film but if it is just a short film then it should be commended for a film with no dialogue that keeps you involved on the womans journey. Going by CULT AFFAIRS (2021) and this short film, Nate Thompson is a Director to keep an eye or two on.
