“Pullman’s performance is so beautifully understated it draws you in” Deborah

The Sinner was originally commissioned as an eight-part miniseries. After the huge success of the first season, the show was recommissioned as an anthology series and aired for four seasons from August 2017, to December 2021.
The series is named after the 1999 novel by German author Petra Hammesfahr on which the first season was based. The Sinner was Hammesfahr’s break through novel and was on the bestseller list in Germany for 15 months.
Jessica Biel starred alongside Bill Pullman in the first series as well as being executive producer for all 4 seasons. Discussions were had about whether to follow Biel’s character Cora (for which she earned an Emmy nomination) in Season 2 but it was ultimately decided to follow Pullman as Detective Ambrose instead. That’s the patriarchy for you.
When the show’s third season debuted it was the third most-watched show on Netflix streaming in the United States. Each season has rating of between 85% – 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.
