Fabulous Films have released the miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars on Blu-ray in the UK.
The miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars reunites the whole cast and crew of Farscape for a further 182 minutes. The miniseries ties up all the loose ends left after the abrupt cancellation of Farscape – from a looming war between the alien factions, the Peacekeepers and the Scarrans, to John and Aeryn’s efforts to have a child, to the fate of the rest of the crew resided on the spaceship Moya alongside Crichton and Aery.
The epic sci-fi classic Farscape is a fusion of live-action, state-of-the-art puppetry, prosthetics and CGI. Edge-of-your-seat thrills, irreverent humour, unforgettable characters and mind-boggling alien lifeforms are brought to life by the creative minds of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. No wonder it’s been called the most imaginative sci-fi series in television.
Running from 1999 to 2003 Farscape was abruptly cancelled after Season 4 – having ended with a “To Be Continued” tag. After fan uproar, series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon and executive producer Brian Henson worked tirelessly for two years to get funding to tie up the loose ends in Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.
Brian Henson directed the show for the first time since Season 1 of the original series, as it was the first time he was allowed back. Farscape was filmed and produced in Australia. Per filming rules in the country, Henson could only direct the first episode, (“Exodus from Genesis” which ended up being the third episode of the first season) to establish the tone and look. After that only Australian directors were hired including Rowan Woods, Andrew Prowse and Ian Watson. As The Peacekeeper Wars was a miniseries, Henson could take back the director’s role.
The Peacekeeper Wars remains an all-time favourite for Brian Henson.
