“Worth seeing…..simply because of the creativity of its visuals. They’re entrancing” Roger Ebert.
Fabulous Films have released the action adventure animation 9 on Blu-ray and DVD.
If you are shitting yourself about AI taking over the world, don’t watch this film.
9 is based on Shane Acker’s 2005 Academy Award-nominated short film of the same title, which
he directed and co-animated whilst studying at UCLA. Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Batman, The
Nightmare Before Christmas) saw the 10 minute short and decided to co-produce the feature film
version. Burton liked the original saying “it didn’t fit into a category, per se, it had a certain
poetry, a certain emotion to it which I found unique.” Acker remained as head director and story
writer for the feature film.
The film cast includes three Oscar winners: Martin Landau, Jennifer Connelly and Christopher
Plummer; plus one Oscar nominee: John C. Reilly, as well as Elijah Wood and Crispin Glover.
In April 2009, the film’s “Scientist” began making journal entries on a Facebook page called “9 Scientist” including essays about each of his nine creations. The film was released on 9/9/09.
