SNAKE OUTTA COMPTON * USA 2018 Dir: Hank Braxtan 89 mins
The story of this film is a simple one: a rap group on the verge of signing their first record deal is the city’s only hope in a battle with a snake that has become huge after a nerd uses his growth ray on it.
Ripping on films like SPEED, TRAINING DAY, and SNAKES ON A PLANE this comedy / horror / sci-fi falls flat with every joke it aims to provide. Its only saving grace comes from the actually reasonably good CGI of the giant snake which our nerd gets to ride on the back of, and the character of Denz (Joston Theney) who is supposed to be our Denzel Washington type bad ass. I am usually a fan of these popcorn filler CGIsploitation monster films like BIG ASS SPIDER! but SNAKE OUTTA COMPTON is destined to show up on the Syfy channel as part of a double bill with the slightly better BOA VS. PYTHON.
