THE FEAST *** UK 2021 Dir: Lee Haven Jones. 93 mins
Following a very limited cinematic release, I was happy to finally be watching Welsh horror ‘The Feast’. Set in the beautiful Welsh countryside, we meet an entitled group of people attending a dinner party. An unusual arrival turns a sophisticated dinner into utter carnage.
With plenty of gore, this is one for the horror fans. Jones also adds plenty of drama and social commentary, making it seem quite realistic. This is somewhat a slow burner but the pacing is used to build dread within the audience as the tension grows stronger from the beginning.
Annes Elwy played Cadi to perfection and I am thankful I watched this in Welsh with English subtitles as it ensured the performance from Elwy shone through. From the beginning of the film, we sense something is off with her but she keeps an air of mystery to keep the audience guessing.
