    Film Review: ZOMBIE BEACH (2010)

Poppy BlundellBy Poppy Blundell9th December 2022No Comments2 Mins Read

ZOMBIE BEACH * Canada 2010 Dir: Mukesh Asopa. 71 mins

Yet another zombie film. Roshan (Mukesh Asopa) returns from India to his friends and girlfriend (Katherine Stefanski) but he is too distracted by recurring nightmares.

I normally love zombie films when they’re done right but this was clearly an exploitation flick, containing nudity and sexist comments just for the sake of it. This was to the point I thought it had been written by a teenage boy, so I was shocked to find that Mukesh Asopa was in his 30s when he directed and co-wrote Zombie Beach.

This is definitely another case of too many writers coming together and not quite managing to get the storyline to gel together, causing the film to lose it’s flow part way through. Even the ending was entirely out of place and seemed to be a hip hop music video.

The performances seemed to be completely over the top, which could have been caused by the script providing a lack of depth for each of the characters.

As awful as it may sound, especially when I completely support the indie film industry, it was easy to see why this film from 2010 was still making the rounds at film festivals twelve years later, thanks to it’s amateur-ish blue tinge and dullness.
