MY LITTLE SISTER ** Italy 2016 Dir: Maurizio del Piccolo, Roberto del Piccolo 80 mins
Italian horror has risen again like something out of a Lucio Fulci movie, with that we get the really good and the barely watchable movies. Unfortunately MY LITTLE SISTER falls into the latter category despite its best efforts to stay above ground. The plot sees a couple go for a walk in the woods to meet up with their friends on a camping trip. On arriving to the camp their friends are no where to be seen, but Ben a creepy guy who wanders the woods with an axe tells them to leave before our title character ‘little sister’ gets them.
Of course its not long and ‘little sister’ gets a hold of our happy couple and we have to sit through several minutes of wood chases and want to be torture porn scenarios. Towards the end we find out the reason that the killings are taking place and its all due to what happened in the past. Despite its best efforts to be original, the film borrows several ideas from far superior slasher films, notably FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The keen eyed will spot massive plot holes such as, Ben knows the killings have been going on for years but doesn’t notify the police! There is little in the way of dialogue which to be fair isn’t really needed in a slasher film but there needs to be something happening on the screen to keep you watching. The liveliest the film gets is in the credits due to the song playing which is not the best place for a film to get momentum. If you are a sucker for any new slasher (despite its credibility) that gets made then check this out, but for the uninitiated in the stalk and slash genre, you would be best running far away from MY LITTLE SISTER and finding something else to watch..
