THE HONEYMOON PHASE **** USA 2019 Dir: Phillip G. Carroll Jr. 89 mins
Down on their luck and financially struggling young couple, Tom (Jim Schubin) and Eve (Chloe Carroll) pretend to be a married couple for a chance to be part of The Millennium Project, a 30-day science experiment in which chosen participants receive $50,000 in exchange for living in isolated quarters inside the research facility with only themselves for company and a hologram who can assist any of their needs. Tom and Eve are chosen for the project and what starts out as the perfect escape with free board and lodging, food and alcohol, turns quickly into a living nightmare.
This sci-fi horror thriller feels like a twisted episode of The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror, it has that kind of feel to the whole production. The acting from the lead couple is nothing short of amazing, both are so believable in the roles and I think both actors are definitely ones to watch in the future.
I absolutely loved this film, it was full on from the very start, the viewer doesn’t get a chance to take a breath, it grips you in and will have you on the edge of your seat.
This is a really great indie sci-fi thriller. Fans of Black Mirror and lower budget films made out of the big studio system will love this sci-fi thriller offering.
