THE BIONIC WOMAN arrives on Blu-ray this August from Fabulous Films

Peter 'Witchfinder' HopkinsBy Peter 'Witchfinder' Hopkins2nd August 202326 Comments5 Mins Read

Following on from the exciting news on the upcoming release of The Six Million Dollar – Complete Collection on Blu-ray, Fabulous Films are following up that release with another iconic TV series The Bionic Woman – The Complete Collection on Blu-ray on 14th August 2023.

The Bionic Woman: The Complete Collection Blu-Ray boxset includes 18 discs and 699 mins of extra features. All 58 episodes of the groundbreaking series have been digitally re-mastered and restored, including a brand new 2k scan of Bionic Ever After? This Emmy© Award winning and Golden Globe© nominated series was originally broadcast on BBC TV in the late 70’s into the early 80’s. Lindsay Wagner as Jamie Sommers won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1977.

The Bionic Woman was adapted by Harve Bennett from Martin Caidin’s novel Cyborg that inspired The Six Million Dollar Man (1973) 90-minute TV-movie pilot. Wagner’s role as Jamie Sommers in the two-part episode of The Six Million Dollar Man in 1975 titled “The Bionic Woman” was supposed to be her last role honouring a contract with Universal (working as a contract player in various Universal Television LLC productions between 1971 and 1975 including The Rockford Files and Night Gallery). However, public reaction to her character was so strong that she was offered her own spin-off series.

Premiering in January 1976, as a mid-season replacement on ABC The Bionic Woman became the fifth most-watched television show of the whole 1975–76 season (even though it only ran for half the season). The series ranked behind Maude, Laverne & Shirley, Rich Man, Poor Man, and All In The Family, but ahead of The Six Million Dollar Man.

Wagner’s Emmy Award was the first ever Best Actress Emmy awarded for a weekly science-fiction television series. The show was the first weekly TV series to feature a female superhero as the lead character, premiering three months before the Wonder Woman TV series.

Guest appearances include Lee Majors (The Six Million Dollar Man, Fall Guy) Stefanie Powers (Hart to Hart), Julie Newmar (Catwoman in the Batman TV Series) and Evil Knievel.

    Synopsis:

When tennis pro Jaime Sommers is critically injured in a skydiving accident, she is “rebuilt” using the government’s top secret cybernetic replacement surgery known as “bionics”. As the world’s first bionic woman, Jaime is equipped with bionic legs capable of running over 60 miles-per-hour, a bionic arm that can lift an automobile, and a bionic ear that can detect the slightest of sounds. With her tennis career necessarily over, Jaime returns to her hometown of Ojai, California, to start life anew as a school teacher at a U.S. Air Force base Between her classroom duties, Jaime moonlights as a secret agent for OSI Director Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), taking on highly-classified—and usually dangerous—missions, to satisfy a debt she feels is owed to the government for making her “whole” again.
