The Cult Movie Museum, Episode #1 – ALUCARDA and THE BEYOND: 2 CULT MOVIES YOU MUST SEE!

Michael JoyBy Michael Joy24th July 2023Updated:24th July 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

The CULT MOVIE MUSEUM invites you to discover these two amazing cult films.

ALUCARDA is a 1977 Mexican horror film made in the surreal spirit of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo and The Holy Mountain. Clearly influenced by Ken Russell’s 1970 classic, The Devils, this retelling of Le Fanu’s Carmilla cranks up the heresy, nudity and gore levels to eleven. It is a shocking, yet strangely beautiful and poetic film with stunning art direction. If you’re triggered by loud, constant screaming Alucarda may upset you… but hey, isn’t that the point?

1981’s THE BEYOND is a better known, but still underappreciated surreal horror film from Italian director Lucio Fulci. Fulci is also known for Zombie (aka Zombi and Zombi 2) City of the Living Dead (aka Gates of Hell) and House by the Cemetery. The Beyond is closer to Salvador Dali’s Un Chien Andalou than it is to a conventional horror film. It’s a strange, nearly plotless blend of Graphic violence and visual elegance, inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. A heavily censored version of the film was initially released in the USA as Seven Doors of Death. Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino released the restored version on his Rolling Thunder Pictures DVD label.

The CULT MOVIE MUSEUM will continue digging up great movies you need to see, so don’t miss out!
