BRIDGE OF THE DOOMED *** USA 2022 Dir: Michael Su. 82 mins
BRIDGE OF THE DOOMED is not the tale of everyone stuck in traffic on a bridge at the end of the work week, it is the story of a unit of soldiers whos prime role is to protect a bridge at all costs from the living dead, unless of course they have no choice but to blow it up.
This small team of soldiers are ordered by General Vasquez (Robert LaSardo) of the USA army to protect a bridge which seems to be a key point for the zombies to overrun the USA during what could only be presumed as a zombie apocalypse. How the zombie apocalypse has occurred is not mentioned but this is an action packed, gut exploding action / horror flick that is in and out with no time for your questions or answers. Not that thats a bad thing as so many of these types of films stretch their running time for over 2 hours that you get tired of it.
These soldiers are originally led by a different leader but due to unfortunate circumstances that are zombie related we get take no prisoners Sergeant Hernandez (Kate Watson) leading the unit to protect the bridge. Only thing is there seems to be something else attacking folk and this is no zombie this is something much worse. Where it comes from originally who knows but its a nice change of pace of just hoards of zombies attacking. The creature has a somewhat Creature from Creature From The Black Lagoon look to it but we don’t get to see a clear view of it in daylight instead it is cleverly kept in the dark except for in a kick-ass battle scene with Sergeant Hernandez where we get glimpses of it.
Can this unit of soldiers keep the bridge from being overrun? Will General Vasquez get his chance to take the USA back into the living hands or is our world over and it is time for the dead to rule? Only way to find out is by watching BRIDGE OF THE DOOMED another fun film from Michael Su (DEATH COUNT) (2022) and produced by Sonny and Michael Mahl of Mahl Empire.
For a nice change of pace we get a strong female lead in Kate Watson as Sergeant Hernandez, which will help this film stand out from other films of this nature. Watson manages to prove that women can be action stars as well as star in any other role.
Look out for Sarah French (DEATH COUNT) (2022) who plays a key part of the soldiers journey from just men (and a woman) with guns to humanising the soldiers more, and giving us more of an emotional journey with them.
BRIDGE OF THE DOOMED smartly keeps the action going throughout even in times of dialogue and by doing this it could easily have been in the top 5 rentals of the week in a video rental store back in the days of muscle groaning action movies. When the zombies attack you get a good dose of gore which is predominantly practical effects which is sure to appease those who are looking for a fresh fix off The Walking Dead coming to an end.
Get your popcorn, sit down with your favourite beverage and get a few more Mahal Empire movies to have a fun movie marathon.
