BERMUDA ISLAND *** USA 2023 Dir: Adam Werth. 85 mins
The Bermuda Triangle is a mysterious place indeed, there are many theories as to what it could be from wormholes to aliens, from the lost city of Atlantis to a hole in the planet’s electromagnetic forces, all way to more malfunctioning compasses. Whatever the reason of the disappearances of hundreds of planes and ships and their crews maybe one thing we rarely see in films is to what happens to those who disappear.
BERMUDA ISLAND gives us one possible answer and if you are into survival movies this could be for you, just be aware that on this island sometimes humans are far scarier then what lies in the darkness.
On a flight to a tropical paradise a plane ends up in a heavy storm sending the plane crashing into the sea below. Only a few passengers survive who swim their way to the only island in reach. Now stranded they try to work together to survive the elements in the hopes of a rescue coming. While they explore the island they come across some horrifying creatures who are only hungry for flesh and these new visitors to the island are there next meal. A past survivor called Bruce (John Wells) from a different crash comes to the rescue fighting off the creatures as he tries to get the group to work together, unfortunately human nature gets in the way with egos and infighting splitting the group in two.
Now with two groups both hunting for food and shelter they may come to realise that they were a stronger unit as one. As the creatures become more bold in their attacks and the groups numbers dwindle perhaps Bruce isn’t the god send they were all hoping for.
BERMUDA ISLAND is another Mahal Empire produced movie which is fast becoming a production company that I eagerly await their next project. Some usual faces appear from their other productions, notably Tom Sizemore (NIGHT OF THE TOMMYKNOCKERS) (2022) in a minor role and it is always a delight to see the wonderful Sarah French (DEATH COUNT) (2022) who’s character Carolyn is full of fire and is an emotional rollercoaster. In amongst all the drama of the film comic relief is brought to the screen by Greg Tally as the gothic record producer Midnight and Sheri Davis as Peggy who takes the so called ‘Karen’ vibe and kicks it to eleven.
This is the first movie I have seen where Adam Werth takes the mantle of Director having previously worked on other movies as assistant director. He clearly has an eye for getting the most from his cast in a timely and efficient manner with this films pacing being perfect.
Those who are keen followers of special effects artists should note that Tom Devlin worked on this film as a special effect supervisor adding production value to this movie.
BERMUDA ISLAND is a film that leaves you wanting more so perhaps in the future we will get to see a return to the island and perhaps find out more about the character of Bruce and those horrifying creatures.
