Film Review: THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR (2020)

THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR **** USA 2020 Dir: David Charbonier & Justin Powell. 88 mins

This great little movie starts with friends Bobby and Kevin being kidnapped and taken to a remote house. Bobby escapes, but hears Kevin’s cries for help and decides he can’t leave his friend. A game of cat and mouse ensues around the house as Booby tries to free Kevin and we discover who has taken the boys and why.

The same writing/directing duo also made 2021’s ‘The Djinn’, which had a super limited theatrical release here in the UK (which yours truly was lucky enough to be able to attend) but I much preferred this movie.

The film wastes no time in getting on with things and you sympathise with the two protagonists, which makes the whole affair pretty harrowing. The villain reveal was surprising for me and I enjoyed how the story wrapped up.

If you’re looking for an unassuming little indie film to check out on Shudder, I highly recommend this one.
