    Film Review: VEGAS SKYLINE (2012)

VEGAS SKYLINE *** USA 2012 Dir: Michael Ricks. 81 mins

    “The odds are against us!”

When an alien race is faced with the extinction of their species, the shape shifting evil alien monsters descend on earth with the intent to mutate with humans, In one last ditch attempt to save their race. The aliens first stop is none other than the bright lights of Las Vegas, seeking to blend in within Sin City to carefully hatch their plan. Little do they know what they will be up against when they cross paths with Cindy, a hypnotherapist and Lucas, a mystery man.

The film stars include  Michele Hailey, Phil Valentine, Ryan Silverman. This is a fun film, obviously made on a very low budget and yes it shows here with the style of CGI used, but I’m a huge fan of that style of cheesy CGI so it’s not a bad thing.

Vegas Skyline is somewhere between a retro 90’s mix of one of those Shannon Tweed slightly cringe worthy and erotic thrillers and retro CGI with aliens thrown in for good measure!

The acting is ranged between good and cue card readers, this certainly isn’t Independence day but if you can look past the low budget CGI and cheesy plotlines you just might get some enjoyment out of this beast, as I did. I actually went on a hunt to find more work from the director and I will be buying the DVD of this to add to my cheesy Sci-Fi collection!

If I had to class this in any genre of film apart from the obvious Sci-Fi I would call this a Sci-Fi romp and I think that title perfectly sums up the movie here!

There’s actually some stunning shots in this film, which I was taken back with, the cinematography is really great, for all its faults I actually did enjoy this beast.

Fans of low budget Sci-Fi and B-movies will get a kick out this indie offering made with heart and passion!
