101 Films will be giving RUNAWAY (1984) its UK Blu-ray debut this March.
Written and directed by sci-fi titan Michael Crichton, the film stars Tom Selleck and Cynthia Rhodes as a pair of cops who come up against killer robots and a particularly menacing villain played by Gene Simmons of KISS.
Synopsis:
In the near future, a police officer specializes in malfunctioning robots. When a robot turns out to have been programmed to kill, he begins to uncover a homicidal plot to create killer robots… and his son becomes a target.
Somewhat overlooked compared to certain other dystopian, technological thrillers of the era, this enjoyable thriller boasts strong performances, a rare all-electronic score from Jerry Goldsmith, and stellar camera work from legendary DP John A. Alonzo. Reappraisal from fans of Crichton, Selleck, and ’80s sci-fi in general, is long overdue.
