Book Review: MIDNIGHT WIDOWS – ISSUE 1

    MIDNIGHT WIDOWS – ISSUE 1

The Midnight Widows is an origin story about three vampire brides: Kateryna, Edith, and Gabriela who escape the rule of their vampire master and venture out into the world to fight otherworldly creatures as well as evil mortals who threaten the innocent. Imprisoned in their master’s castle for so long made freedom their ultimate goal, and the three formed an everlasting bond as a result of their shared history. However, when they come face to face with a verbal, calculated, ravenous zombie, their knowledge of the supernatural and their acquired morality is put to the test.

This story is an interesting and well-paced vampire tale that tells a lot of story in just a few pages. The art is simple and cartoonish while still effective at conveying the horror and gore necessary for its subject matter. It’s colorful and expressive, providing clues to the developing plot and its characters without spelling everything out in this introductory issue or becoming too cryptic to hold a reader’s attention. The dialogue is a little hokey, but all around, it’s an intriguing introduction to the adventures of these three modern-day hunter vampires.
