MRS. CLAUS ** U.S.A. 2018 Dir: Troy Escamilla. 87 mins
A group of college girls are hazing their latest pledge but this is one girl who gets pushed too far, finally snapping and killing the leader of this sisterhood. 10 years later the sister of the hazing group leader joins the same college. As is expected many rumours fly across the college grounds about her and her sister. Deciding to just get on with her life, her own sorority sisters are hosting a Christmas party at their house. Though one person is determined to make sure this party is remembered and not for a good reason.
Troy Escamilla directs his second slasher film (first being the 2017 film PARTY NIGHT), and his love for the genre certainly shows with plenty amounts of blood and unique kills on display. A little bit of humour is injected here and there throughout to lighten the mood…well until someone gets killed that is. The film has a modest budget and it is clear that all involved had fun making this film. Brinke Stevens (NIGHTMARE SISTERS) and Helene Udy (MY BLOODY VALENTINE) give the film name value but their roles are minor giving the mostly fresh-faced cast time to shine. Though MRS. CLAUS is far from original in its concept it does entertain and another Christmas themed horror film is always welcome in my eyes.
