FEAR TOWN, USA *** U.S.A. 2014 Dir: Brandon Bassham 92 mins
Its St.Blevins day (the day where in the past St.Blevin walked a bunch of Polish children out into the sea to their uncertain doom pied piper style) and the town has to celebrate every year but this year someone has come to ruin the celebrations. Everyone is invited to the party except (of course) our Dungeons and Dragons playing foursome of nerds who take offence and make it their duty to go to the party to get some girls and do some porking.
Chuck in an escaped mental patient, a girl who has a dark secret, a lonely girl out to meet the man of her dreams via online dating, a self obsessed party girl, an indian psychic and the devil himself you end up with a party from hell!
There is so much going on in this film from its obvious nods to slasher history, most notable of all the ‘Crazy Ralph’ type character who explains why a certain place is named the way it is, to the guy playing the devil who is just simply the greatest character in the film. I cant say too much about this film as you just have to watch it to believe me. If you ever thought ‘SLEEPAWAY CAMP’ had an ending to make you go what the f#@k, wait till you see what this girl is packing. Definitely a comedy horror which focuses more on the comedy element, ‘FEAR TOWN, U.S.A.’ is directed by Brandon Bassham who would later go on to direct ‘THE SLASHENING’ (review here) which is very much in the same vein as this.
