Film Review: BRIDE OF SCARECROW (a.k.a. Scarecrow Rising) (2018)

BRIDE OF SCARECROW (a.k.a. Scarecrow Rising) *** U.K. 2018 Dir: Louisa Warren 90 mins

You were warned not to walk on the farmers land, now you have even more reason to listen to the warning. Failed radio host May Sealey (Claire-Maria Fox), finds out she has inherited a farm house and its grounds in Wales. Although she never knew the family she inherited it from she visits the property with her friends and her boyfriend. Signing the agreement she now officially owns the property, unfortunately she also inherits the curse that is on the land. For every 20 years a scarecrow comes to life and he is seeking out a new bride. The curse only lasts 48 hours but will that be enough time to stop the scarecrow once and for all or will the curse forever go on?
Directed by Louisa Warren, this British horror is a blend of JEEPERS CREEPERS and the general fear people have of scarecrows, making this one of the best scarecrow horror films in years. Sure there is a few issues with dialogue being overpowered by music, and some of the dialogue is laughable but don’t let that distract you from what is a well crafted story. The location becomes a character in itself in some scenes which helps drive the story forward. Cinematography wise this film is near perfect with only a few issues that are only brief. Overall I warn thee, beware the scarecrow, you never know when it will strike next!
