NIGHT ** USA 2019 Dir: Nicholas Michael Jacobs 65 mins
Opening with a man (who we later learn is called Adam) as he prepares to go out and stalk a young girl and kidnap her. Once he has the girl he ties her up and at the stroke of midnight he starts a livestream, where those who are watching can donate money to the kidnapper and in return he will do whatever they have paid for him to do to the girl, though Adam may have misjudged his latest victim.
NIGHT is predominantly a two person film with Adam doing most of the talking apart from a brief conversation with his kidnapped victim. Don’t expect to see HOSTEL levels of torture here, it is more maiming then actual torture with very little to show in terms of blood. Shot mainly in static shots the film at times is reminiscent of early sov films which many genre fans will find appealing. Its a simple story and although at times it can be repetitive its final pay off is worth the wait.
