A NEW WORLD ORDER *** Germany 2019 Dir: Daniel Raboldt. 95 mins
This German movie, which was largely shot in Finland, was a crowdfunded project which focuses on a wounded deserter who teams up with a resistance fighter to take down an otherworldly enemy.
Low in scale but high in ambition, this largely dialogue free sci-fi film features seriously impressive special effects work, and it’s not often that you’ll catch this avid film fan praising CGI.
Considering almost the entire cast and crew did this project for free after a successful Kickstarter campaign, I was seriously impressed with the dedication and efforts from all involved with the production.
Unfortunately, sci-fi isn’t my preferred genre, therefore I’m not the target audience for this film, so technical competence aside, I’m afraid the story did little for me.
Fans of low budget sci-fi will undoubtedly enjoy this and appreciate the homages to classic sci-fi, but for me, it was style over substance.
