Exclusive Interview: Henry Frost (Obsidian)
How did you get attached to OBSIDIAN?
If I remember correctly, I responded to a local indie film facebook group that Erica had posted a casting call to. Or was it Craigslist? I’m gunna go with my gut on this one and say Craigslist.
Tell us a little bit about your character?
For me, Jack felt very “relatable.” I was currently going through a rough time in my life, seeking my new identity of sobriety and not being an asshole that felt like he ruled the world. Jack was going through the same thing just in different context. He’s just a standup dude trying to figure out where he fits in this crazy f’ed up world. I think everyone can find a little bit of Jack inside of them. << hahaha
How was it working with ERICA SUMMERS?
A dream come true! You’ve never seen “hands on” until you work with this badass. Someone that is capable of dipping their toes into literally every single department on and off set and is still able to give you the attention and direction you deserve….she’s not human, she’s a Swiss Army Knife!
What was your favorite scene?
Probably when Iris comes into my bedroom and we sit and talk on my bed. I love our chemistry and Erica nailed that one with lighting, it’s beautiful.
What was the most difficult aspect to making OBSIDIAN?
Physically, trying to act natural in the burn makeup…big props to any actor that’s ever had to do it..it’s weird. Mentally, I recently became sober prior to filming and was highly considering never acting again. When I saw “lead role in indie horror feature” I decided to give it one more shot and I am so glad I did.
What makes OBSIDIAN stand out?
It’s raw, and raw feels real. I like that.
Do you have any favorite horror films?
Easy..
“The Devil’s Rejects” & “Hobo with a Shotgun”
What made you want to get into acting?
Growing up I never really “thrived” in sports, academics, video games, etc. I stepped on stage and found myself through characters and it left a smile on my face and others. Later on I discovered I was good at parties. The two turned out to be a great combo for a career.
Who inspires your creativity?
You could ask me this question again next month and I might have a different answer. Right now? I’d have to say Jordan Peele and Cole Bennett. Jordan for my screenplay writing and Cole for my music video directing. As for acting, I don’t feel necessarily “inspired” by many artists, I get more of a “respect” type feeling towards them.
What’s next for HENRY FROST?
Join a cult on a farm in the middle of nowhere maybe? Just kidding, I tried that this summer and it didn’t work out. I’ll be appearing in TNT Claws Season 4 Ep. 3 this winter, and I have a music video, “Infinity & Beyond” that I directed dropping soon. Go follow me on Instagram: @howdydown and youtube: Howdy Down Film where I post all of my producing/directing work.
