Book Review: WITHIN THE DARK PLACES by Duncan Thompson

    Plot:

There is a faceless danger lurking in the shadows – or are the shadows themselves the real threat…?

The story follows a stag-party who find themselves stalked by a malevolent force that hides within the dark shadows of the forest. What the party hoped would be one hell of a night soon turns into a night from Hell…

Duncan Thompson’s debut novel will have you gripped from its opening line right to its final page. Originally conceived as a screenplay until adult responsibilities got in the way, Duncan has created a filmatic vision within 80 pages. The story sees us follow Joe, his brother Tony and their friends Mike and Charlie as they go on Joe’s stag do camping trip in the sinisterly named Druid Woods. While they are there they experience a threat like no one has ever seen seen and must try and survive the night and keep out of the shadows where something even darker then night waits. The book maybe short but you will find it hard to put it down and with its follow up ‘Where The Darkness Hides‘ also out, you will have a good reason to sit down and read both of them back to back.
