HECTIC KNIFE ** U.S.A. 2016 Dir: Greg DeLiso 83 mins
Move over Daredevil, swing away Spider-man, go back to hiding in the darkness Batman theres a new superhero in town. Hectic Knife is a knife wielding vigilante and he won’t stop coming after the bad guys till their dead. Naturally being a superhero he has to have a nemesis and they don’t get much scarier then the evil Piggly Doctor who is set on world domination. Using his skills that he learned in India 25 years ago, Hectic Knife will slash his way through the bad guys of New York until he will have his final battle against the evil doctor. Only one can survive but will Hectic Knife be the saviour we need?
With tongue firmly set in cheek and two fingers flying high to the system, writers Greg DeLiso and Peter Litvin (the latter who plays Hectic Knife) have created a superhero like no other. With cinema screens across the world dominated by Marvel and DC Comics it was only a matter of time till someone created a film which mocks them. Though HECTIC KNIFE is essentially making a mockery of superhero movies it is played with seriousness which just adds to the hilarity of some scenes. It is unsurprising to find that Troma have released this film and it is one that Troma fans will lap up with delight. If you are looking for a superhero movie like none other, then HECTIC KNIFE is the film for you. With its dialogue delivered deadpan, blood squirting and a superhero who survives mostly on hard boiled eggs, this is a indie film that could see the superhero movie revamped.
