COULROPHOBIA *** UK 2017 Dir: Warren Speed & Lee Bibby 85 mins
COULROPHOBIA a persistent and irrational fear of clowns, gets taken to full throttle in this latest mad cap film from ZOMBIE WOMEN OF SATAN (2009) director Warren Speed. The film follows a team of roller derby girls who go to get away from it all in the countryside, but on their travels they come across a circus camp of siblings who take them captive.
While in the hands of these sadistic circus freaks they will have to perform certain tasks to survive. To make matters worse, the circus families dad has just been released from prison after murdering their mother, and now he is coming to get the money that he knows they have. This leaves everybody out to save their lives before things go from bad to worse. Full of off the wall humour and zaniness to tip even the most sane person into cloud cuckoo land, this British indie film is for those who have a sense of humour and won’t take it too seriously. Those wanting to see gore will get enough to fill their roller skates here. Nudity level is reasonable with plenty of bosoms to make a nun blush. Stand out performances go to Pete Bennett as the constantly high on mushrooms jester Twitch Grock, and to Roxanne Bordeaux as the happy go lucky sister Gretchen Grock. I would have to say this is more polished then Speed’s previous movies and that can only be a good thing for his future projects.
