High Rising Productions always fill their documentaries with an insight that any film fan would find fascinating. Their latest enters a territory that some may not know the name of but you may have seen some of the films that gained the rating Category III.
What is Category III?
Since the birth of the Hong Kong motion picture rating system introduced in 1988, Category III films are films produced in Hong Kong (or elsewhere) that are restricted to those of 18 years of age and above. this restricts them from renting, purchasing or watching the films in the cinema. Though lets be honest here many would have found a way to watch them if they so wanted too.
Some titles that you may have heard of that fit the Category III rating are:
- Men Behind the Sun (1988)
- Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991)
- Ebola Syndrome (1996)
High Rising Productions new feature documentary CATEGORY III: THE UNTOLD STORY OF HONG KONG EXPLOITATION CINEMA from Calum Waddell and Naomi Holwill, runs at around 85 minutes and features interviews with Anthony Wong, Josie Ho, Godfrey Ho, Bey Logan, Sean Tierney and many more.
