THE LEAGUE OF SUPERHEROES (a.k.a. ABCs Of Superheroes) *** U.S.A. 2015 Dir: Jens Holzheuer, Oliver Tietgen 86 mins
What does Uwe Boll, Lloyd Kaufman, Fred Olen Ray, Jörg Buttgereit and Bai Ling all have in common? They all feature (albeit very briefly) in this twisted bloody ABCs of superheroes. The film sees a young girl going around a local supermarket with her mother who doesn’t seem to really care about her daughter. Once at the till she lets her daughter buy a comic and that is basically where the ABCs of superheroes stories get told from.
As the Mum drives the car home, her daughter is sat in the back reading the comic and as she reads we see each letter told as a story, example of this is ‘M is for Menstru Girl’. You get to see a woman with a giant penis, Hitlers brain return inside a concoction of kitchen appliances, a hero who brings a new meaning to shitstorm and so much more. As you can probably tell this isn’t a carbon copy of a Marvel or DC superhero movie. This is the superhero movie that fans of Troma and low budget film making will enjoy. It is is full of blood, gore, bargain basement special effects, outrageous humour, nudity and costumes so revealing they will make your local vicar blush. This is a film that you should watch with your friends around and you are sure to all have a good time!
